The winter holidays in Punjab are expected to end on January 9, 2023 (Tuesday) and schools are expected to reopen on January 10, 2023 (Wednesday). However, parents are demanding that the Punjab government further extend the winter holidays citing the current cold wave in the province.
The Punjab government had initially extended the winter holidays by nine days on December 30, 2023. The original date for the reopening of all schools was January 1, 2024, but the extension pushed it back to January 9, 2024.
The ongoing cold wave is forcing parents to request a further extension of the winter holidays. In response, Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi clarified that the provincial government is yet to take a decision on a further extension.
He said the possibility of extending the winter holidays could be considered in accordance with the recommendation of the provincial Ministry of Education. So far, the Punjab government has not announced any official extension of the holiday and schools are expected to resume on January 10, 2024.
